Applying for NIE is an important process if you are living in Barcelona and we know that all the information about documents, dedlines and administrative procedures can be overwhelming. This is the reason we are here to advice and make this process easy for you.
¿Why is NIE so important? The NIE is the identification number that spanish authorities assign you in order to carry out the administrative applications, including social security services. This number will allow you to open a bank account, to start working in Spain, to pay taxes, to buy a propierty, etc. It is compulsory for the foreigners living in Spain longer than three months per year.
This is the documentation you need to obtain your NIE:
- Original passport and copy
- NIE application completed and signed
- Motivation to apply for NIE
- Proof of payment of NIE taxes
- Accreditation document of residence in Spain
First of all you will need to do an online application for an appointment at the immigration section on the Police Station. Once you get your appointment, you will need to pay the NIE taxes and bring all the documentation with you the day of the appointment, after that a provisional safeguard will be given to you until the official NIE is ready.
